(ATTACHMENT I below), as catching the essence of our project in
ÒGlobal HarmonizationÓ for global peace.
(2) You are now at the US Marine Base at Iwakuni,
Japan, which is very close to Hiroshima.
Although I myself havenÕt done yet, you may visit the place where the Hiroshima
Atomic Bomb was dropped.
The principal of my senior high school was the student dean of the Hiroshima
Junior college on August 6, 1945. He was
speaking about 300 students in the school yard, and
suddenly knocked down with shock wave. He was saved from intense heat
since he was standing behind a building. When he gained his conscience, he
found almost all students were dead or wounded. He then could not find
even born of his wife and infant baby — all evaporated, since they were
just underneath of the atomic bomb. While he was at my high school, he suffered
severe pneumonia every winter. But he never mentioned of any remorse,
since he was a deep believer of Buddhism. He taught us non-violence,
forgiveness and broad mind.

to the countries in the west coast of Africa — with a hope to expand it

Dear Dr. Utsumi,
Sorry if you receive this message twice. I have recently been exposed to
your work in peace gaming and with GLOSAS and wanted to thank you personally.
The work you do is noble and with great cause. The work of
Buckminster Fuller and more recently John Hunter in turning the emergence of
world peace into a game is phenomenal, and I hope to be able to contribute
something to this field in the future.
I'm writing to you today to inquire as to whether you have any colleagues at
universities in the Kansai region of Japan. Currently I am a Marine
serving aboard MCAS Iwakuni in Yamaguchi Prefecture
and am intent on staying in Japan after I am finished with the military to
pursue my graduate studies.
I currently hold a BS in Communications from Northeastern University, but
before leaving Boston to conduct my Marine Corps social experiment I was very
active in science and technology at MIT and Harvard. I worked with
undergraduate and grad students and saw the birth of DIY Bio, an effort to
democratize the oft-times biological sciences. Producing materials for
DIY scientists to perform DNA extraction, analysis, self-diagnostics, and any
number of other experiments using off-the-shelf hardware and software.
I was also very active in the Boston Transhumanist
Society where we would meet to discuss the cutting edge of scientific progress
and technological innovation. I attended TEI at the MIT MediaLab in 2010, as well as EmTech
2009, and the Singularity Summit in 2009. I'm very excited by the
prospects of open universities such as the flagship MIT OpenCourseWare
initiative, as well as EdX, the work of Khan Academy,
and open source initiatives like PLoS and arXiv.org
to open the floodgates of information exchange to rapidly increase the quality
of life and reduce the impetuses responsible for conflict on this planet.
I'm very excited by groups like Planetary Resources who are seeking to mine
asteroids for raw materials to reduce the panic induced by the apparent lack of
terrestrial-based supplies. At the same time I champion the work of Elon Musk at Tesla and SpaceX for
seeking to disrupt the automobile industry by producing a vehicle (the Tesla
Roadster) proven to be profitable. The obvious side-effect
of a swing towards renewables means an end to the destruction of our planet
through irresponsible resource management, extraction, and exploitation.
I'm fascinated by complex systems and the dynamics that govern those systems.
The raw physics that determine the behavior of
networks, and the social consequences that result from the interaction of each
of the nodes within those networks. The work of Yaneer Bar-Yam at the New England Complex Systems
Institute, and of Barabasi at Northeastern come
to mind.
Before joining the military I spent much of my time, ironically, advancing the
cause of world peace; and it was engrained in my mind far before I decided to
conduct my Marine Corps experiment.
Global harmony should be the objective of any undertaking, and I would
sincerely appreciate any staff or faculty references in the Kansai region you
would be willing to provide. My Japanese is progressing as rapidly as I
have time available to dedicate to learning it, and I am very much looking to
join a research team at a University in the Kansai area after I complete my
contract with the US Military.
